Purpose

The Northwest Church Planting Workshop brings presenters who are engaged in church planting ministries to provide practical training in church planting. The workshop is also a time for networking among church planters and church planting supporters from the Northwest and beyond. The workshop is hosted on the campus of Cascade College in beautiful Portland, Oregon, sponsored by Kairos: Church Planting Support.

This Year's Program

The Restoration Movement has a strong and vital heritage. Our heritage proved resilient and enduring through the 20th century. The 21st century now brings us new challenges and a shift in culture more far reaching than anything the west has experienced for 500 years. Is our fellowship capable of coping with these changes and learning how to thrive in this new century? We believe it is. Leonard Allen will help us review our history and the theological blessings and barriers of our heritage as we consider how to be God's light in this new century.

As we plant new churches for 21st century people who are just beginning their journey of faith we need to become adept at helping them mature their faith and develop a strong, Christian lifestyle. Holly Allen brings expertise in faith development for new Christians and for children, particularly in small group settings. If your church is doing small groups Holly will give you many insights on how to energize those small groups into centers of faith development.

Northeast Church Multiplication Summit, April 9-11, 2007

Kairos is committed to helping regional initiatives to form to plant new churches in those regions of the country. On April 9-1, 2007 thirty ministers from North Carolina up to Rhode Island met at the Manhattan Church of Christ in New York city to strategize about how we can work together to create a growing church multiplication movement in what could be several regions along the upper east coast.

Summary: The purpose of the summit was to gather together ministers who have a passion and commitment to extending the kingdom borders in the Northeast United States. The summit was a series of conversations based around 4 overarching questions (provided below). There are multiple models of churches active among churches of Christ in the NE: traditional congregational, relational congregational, organic, and networks of organic churches. The conversations demonstrated a strong awareness of the cultural shifts and religious foundations of the NE, a sense of exploration and willingness to adapt to the myriad changes and cultural enclaves and an interest to take definite steps in the future to strategically engage in church planting.

Question 1 What is happening in the NE?
Question 2 What are the challenges of the NE?
Question 3 Where do you feel our heritage gains and loses traction in the context NE?
Question 4 Where do we go from here?

A summary of these discussions is available under Northeast /Summit Notes. PowerPoint presentations are also available below.

Renewal 2007

Renewal is the follow-up event to GNEW (Great Northwest Evangelism Workshop)in the Pacific Northwest.

Renewal is organized by a committee of ministers in Churches of Christ in the Northwest. It is held each year from July 4-7. In 2007 Renewal was hosted at the Southwest Church of Christ in Tigard, Oregon.
