Church planters talk about Discovery Lab

You may have heard or read about church planter assessments and wondered, "What's the deal with that!" Mark Driscoll, Mars Hill pastor and founder of the Acts 29 church planting group says that assessment is the most important event in the church planting journey. This video clip lets you listen in on a conversation between Jason Campbell (Cascade Hills Church of Christ), Dwayne Hilty (Soma Church of Christ) and Wilson Parrish (Sherwood, OR) about their experiences at Kairos Discovery Labs.

Northeast Church Multiplication Summit, April 9-11, 2007

Kairos is committed to helping regional initiatives to form to plant new churches in those regions of the country. On April 9-1, 2007 thirty ministers from North Carolina up to Rhode Island met at the Manhattan Church of Christ in New York city to strategize about how we can work together to create a growing church multiplication movement in what could be several regions along the upper east coast.

Summary: The purpose of the summit was to gather together ministers who have a passion and commitment to extending the kingdom borders in the Northeast United States. The summit was a series of conversations based around 4 overarching questions (provided below). There are multiple models of churches active among churches of Christ in the NE: traditional congregational, relational congregational, organic, and networks of organic churches. The conversations demonstrated a strong awareness of the cultural shifts and religious foundations of the NE, a sense of exploration and willingness to adapt to the myriad changes and cultural enclaves and an interest to take definite steps in the future to strategically engage in church planting.

Recently the Park Plaza congregation (Tulsa, Oklahoma) committed to be the sponsoring church for the Clarks in their Portland church plant. This work will be coordinated by the Park Plaza missions committee under the oversight of the church's elders.

Park Plaza will provide the Clark's salary. Ron is still raising the $50,000 work fund he'll need for rent, sound system, trailer, mailings and other items this new church will need as they prepare to launch in the spring of 2007.
